Cannot exclude/include specific collection for freestyle #60625

System Information
Operating system: Arch Linux
Graphics card: GTX 1060

Blender Version
Broken:
(example: 2.80, 2757469824

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Create a new collection called "Collection2"
  2. Add a new cube to Collection2
  3. Enable Freestyle
  4. Go to the view layer in the properties window, in the "Selection By" area, enable "Collection"
  5. In the "Collection" area, select one of your 2 collections and set it to Inclusive or Exclusive
  6. Render the scene

You will notice that either both cubes will have freestyled edges or neither of them will. Selecting a collection to include or exclude does not appear to be working.

Cannot really reproduce here.

If I set the render engine to cycles and enable Silhouette [border alone doesnt give me strokes], the feature seems intact, see
#60625.blend

  • Is this working for you?
  • Are we talking about Eevee specifically?

This bug occurs with both Eevee and cycles.

The issue isn't the Border/Silhouette, it's that I cannot exclude specific collections of objects from being Freestyled.

Well, like I said: in the file I posted I cannot reproduce the issue, both inclusive/exclusive collection do work on my side, have you checked that file (if that works for you as well, it gives us a hint on how to proceed)

I have tried your file. If I set the collection to "Inclusive", neither cube will be freestyled. If I set it to exclusive, then both cubes will have freestyled edges. The issue I'm having is that I cannot make it so one cube is freestyled and the other not be.

If you're able to do this, can you tell me what Blender version you're using and what operating system?

i just checked with latest beta and for me freestyle only works, if I select a collection with no sub-collections.
don't know if this is a bug or meant to be, but I would prefer if it could render all sub-collections as freestyle too.

I have the issue as described.
Resolved in later versions?

Edit: I downloaded 2.83 and did the same. Collections include/exclude not working

I accidentally marked the status from Resolved to Invalid, my apologies, and hope a Dev can restore the appropriate Status.
What I meant none the less, is that it seems not Solved.
