System Information
Operating system: Mac OS 10.14.2
Graphics card: Radeon Pro 560

Blender Version
Broken: Date: 2019-01-23 23:36, Hash: 7f77961f1c, branch: blender2.7
Worked: (optional)

Switching to what I think is the EEVEE viewpoint showing materials, colours, lights, world etc. the app performance falls apart and the entire app becomes very slow. I used to work in the Materials view in 2.79b, but this is currently unusable for me.

Steps:Book Factory.blend

  1. Open blender file
  2. Switch to LookDev view
  3. See extremely slow and choppy performance

Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible).

Lookdev (as well as Eevee rendered viewport) is butter smooth here (linux, 970m) using your file.

quoting @brecht from #60772:

In #60772#605041, @brecht wrote:
EEVEE viewport rendering still needs optimizations, particularly on macOS it's not that efficient yet.

We do not need to keep open a bug report for that though, it's ongoing work.

I dare closing this [unless someone has objections?]

Hi,

I'm running the latest Blender 2.8 Version on my Mac Pro / Mojave 10.14.4.
I can confirm the extremely slow performance using your 'Book Factory.blend'

I had the same behaviour with another projects and found out that it is caused by one single object.
In the case of your 'Book Factory.blend' project, just switch off the 'Output Machine' object by pressing the corresponding 'eye' button in the Scene Collection panel. If you disable its view, the performance will be back to normal. Everything is super fast.

It could be that some object or its properties in combination with other elements through out the EEVEE viewport performance.

Hope this is helpful for further investigation of this problem.

Best regards

Similar issue still happens to me with Blender 2.82 and Mojave 10.14.6

test.blend

This is an extremely simple scene that shouldn't be slow, but it's very laggy with Eevee. If I hide the "cube" object it will be fast.
