Eevee render engine is too buggy
Closed, DuplicatePublic

System Information
Operating system: Windows 10 64-bit version 1809
Graphics card: Intel HD Graphics 2500 IVB-MB GT1 ; OpenGL 4.0 Build
Blender Version
2.8 beta - the latest version downloaded from the official site, on the date this report was submitted

Short description of error
Eevee render engine works incorrectly. And it does not work correctly regardless of the scene. For example, even if in an empty scene just pressing the button to select a color for the material, the program stops responding. Rendering of nothing take a lot of time and sometimes it just hangs. In a word, Eevee does not work as it should, except for rendering in the viewport. Everything else in the program works fine.

This is too unspecific. Please provide a blend file which demonstrates something that is specifically wrong, otherwise developers have no way to understand exactly what you are referring to.

I wrote that the problem appears regardless of the scene itself. I understand you very well that most problems arise in a specific scene, but this is not
so in my case. Should I provide the starting cube scene blend file? I think not, given that the problem occurs after installing the program in an empty scene. For example, I open the program after installation. As you know, on the scene is already selected cube. Then I switch to the Materials tab. Further, after I click on any option (Surface, Base Color, Subsurface etc.), the program will stop responding. After a few minutes, the program returns to normal. But the "not responding" bug will repeat if I click again on any material menu option. Also, the program freezes or just automatically closes (and without a single error notification) when you press F12.
If I change the render engine to Cycles then the program will work correctly. Therefore, I assume that the bug arises due to Eevee render engine.

You'll have to narrow down the problem more precisely. One thing at a time. File a bug report with a single, specific problem with steps on how to reproduce. Otherwise it's a shot in the dark.

Have you tried loading the factory settings before? Might be an old startup.blend or preferences saved from an older version of 2.80.
It's also strange that your splash screen says "Branch: blender2.7" while a proper splash screen should look like this:

And last but not least, your GPU is from Intel. They're not famous to be the best choice for Blender (or any 3D application), might also play a role.

I deleted the BF folder (C:\Users\[my_name]\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation) to let the program re-create it. Now the strange text "Branch: blender2.7" has disappeared. But the hanging problem remained. As for my GPU, I agree that it is not the most powerful and not the most suitable GPU for such purposes. But 3d graphics is my hobby and I don’t do complex scenes and animations (everything that I create, I do it only for myself). In addition, my GPU meets the system requirements. The strangest thing is that my device even handles heavyweight programs like 3ds Max, Maya, Cinema 4d. Of course, I work with simple scenes, but still, even these programs cope with the tasks and never hang. Until now I thought that Blender is the most lightweight program. It turned out that it is not.

Ok, so the steps seem to be:

  • Open Blender
  • Go to Material tab in Properties
  • Add material
  • Change Base Color or material
  • Hang

@Clément Foucault (fclem) Does this ring a bell? Considering the fact that he is not even in LookDev or Rendered view here, what could cause such a slowdown in that case? Could it be the material preview that is being generated that causes it?

Yes, that's it.
The program also stops responding after the following steps:

  • Open Blender
  • Render Image F12
  • Hang

To narrow the problem I will add that the program does not hang when switching to Rendered or LookDev display modes. I can also add materials in Cycles, then switch to Eevee, and then even switch to Rendered view and everything will be fine. But the program will hang if I click on Render Image F12 or go to Material tab and change base color or another parameter.

We have more reports about EEVEE crash for some users with an Intel card, merging it into the existing report.

hello i have the same problem here with eeveei use blender on linux it renders in viewport correctly but when i press render button it hangs on 0% forever and my whole system almost freezes ,,, core i7 4790k with gtx 970
