Deleting a branch is permanent. Although the deleted branch may continue to exist for a short time before it actually gets removed, it CANNOT be undone in most cases. Continue?

Worked: 2.79b
Import obj file. Default import settings. Same character. 2.79b works fine, but 2.8 splits almost every polygon. I attached the obj file and 2 screenshots.

ok, there is something wrong with split group parsing in either Blender 2.79 or 2.8. Checking further...
Btw, if you disable splitting by group when importing, the whole mesh will become single object.
