I can not reproduce this on my end. I'm guessing this is a OSX issue.

Can you try the latest blender beta and see if it is fixed in that version?

I can not reproduce this.
MacOS 10.14.3.
MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016).

@Jandals try the latest build.
Does the step 4 (change the number of hairs) matter?

No crash here either on iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015)

The crash still happens in today's build: 46ac288a93

@ZedDB No, changing the number of hairs doesn't have an impact. Sorry, it was unnecessary to include that.

I've seen that not everyone can reproduce this crash. I wish I knew more about what leads to it.

That crash log makes me think that the issue is with the GPU drivers as it seems to crash when it is trying to draw the particle edit mode.

@fclem is there anything we can do here?

I have the exact same problem , I set the nr of hairs to 0 and just add them in edit mode .
As soon as hairs are inserted , blender crashes

Using latest beta , on win 10

When I sart blender from windows console view , the crash is not reported
If anyone could lead me in the good direction how to set up a (gpu) crash report , that would be appreciated
