Short description of error
Blender doesn't recognize shape keys through sculpting being applied when there is an open subdivide or multi resolution modifier in the stack. This is problematic when using armatures. Modifiers must be applied before adding armatures. This results in significant performance loss when forced to apply all subdivide mods before rigging.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Add basis shape key.
Add additional shape key.
Set 2nd shape key to a value.
Enter sculpt mode.
Make sculpting changes to the shape of the model.
Return to object mode
Change value of the 2nd shape key. Notice this does not effect the model in any way.
