[RESOLVED] 2.8 Subdivision Surface Modifier not working (+ missing system console)
Closed, ResolvedPublic

FIXED: Issue with missing opensubdiv toggles in the pkgbuild

System Information
Operating system: Arch Linux
Graphics card: Radeon Rx580

Blender Version

2.80, 0b6dbbc306b0, blender2.8, 2019-02-10

Subdivision Surface Modifier does nothing. When trying to apply it propts: "Modifier returned error, skipping apply"

see included screenshot

What I did today with blender

  1. removed both blender 2.7 and blender 2.8-git because of dependency issues
  2. reinstalled a fresh 2.8-git from AuR
  3. came across this bug

Recreating the bug:

  1. load up attached blend file
  2. Cube is supposed to have subdivision Surface modifier, but it seems to do nothing.

I'd really like to give futher info, and troubleshoot myself, but the system console is currently msising and (I've been googeling it , but didn't manage to find it's new spot unfortunately) blender 2.8 also does not report this errors back to my terminal when launched from there. (This is almost worth a second but report)

I've checked: Opensubdiv is installed and up to date.

Is your blender version compiled with opensubdiv support?

I usesd this AuR Package to compile it. I didn't disable or enable opensubdiv support. However I can try to install blender from this source:

The first one you linked is missing the opensubdiv toggles in the pkgbuild. So that is probably why.

Oh okay sorry then this was probably a mistake on my side for choosing the wrong build package, thanks for the help. I'll recompile it using the second package and and close the task, if it fixes the issue.
