Whenever you load up something with a sculpt mesh and a retopo mesh on top. If you have the sculpted mesh hidden and the retopo mesh not hidden when startup. You need to delete your retopo mesh and then press Ctrl Z in order for it all to appear again.

Which version of Blender are you using exactly (the hash on the splash screen)?

Please upload a .blend file that allows us to reproduce the issue in as few steps as possible. Also make sure you describe these steps precisely.
