System Information
Operating system: HP Z 230 Workstation
Graphics card: HP ZDispay

Blender Version
Broken:
(2.79b / earlier releases.)

I realized this problem had been going on for a few years, but it has only happened when on any sort of HP. So every time I got an image from the internet to display onto an object, I could never find the image. and I tried putting it in a folder, but it never worked. I went onto the folder and it was empty.

On an HP, you go on to Blender. Then you go to files to select an image you got from the internet or anywhere, and you look for the image and it's not there.

I've tried many things but nothing worked. But what I don't understand is, why just on HP?

If it only happens on that computer then this is very unlikely to be blender issue.

However, the information you have provided is too vague to help you.
Is is all image types or just certain file formats?

This happens to all images I get from the internet.
But also I saw this happening a few years ago to another HP, it was a different type of HP.
But I also tried on a couple of other HP and it still doesn't work.

I know there on the computer, because when I go to files the images are there.
But when I go onto Blender to insert an image, it's not there.

  • How are you trying to open the image in Blender, which specific menu? Image > Open.. in the image editor?
  • Please attach one specific image file that fails here (even if it happens for all images you tried).
  • Please give one specific folder path where there are images that fail to be found. If it's on a network drive, cloud synced, .. there may be issues related to that.
  • Does putting the image in for example the Documents folder work?

Given no exact steps, I simply used Blender's file browser to look if I can see downloaded image

HP Z440 - no issue
HP Z420 - windows updates rolled out, got no time for that...
HP Z400 - no issue
HP probook 450G4 - no issue

This rules out HP bloatware issue

So it may be your company (I assume) domain group policy settings. Try also disable "anti-virus" software
Windows can flag file, that was downloaded from internet or originates from another PC.

Blender's file manager can filter file by extension, so make sure, you have no filters active

Thanks for the help, but I got it to work somehow.
I didn't do anything different from before, but somehow it worked.
Anyway, thanks for the help and time.

These are some of the things I had already tried, but whatever I did today it worked.
Even though I didn't do anything differently.

Ok, let's archive this then as there is nothing we can do on our side now.
