Short description of error
In 2.79, you could be in wireframe mode in a 3dview and set the OpenGL Render Options -> Alpha Mode to Transparent and do an OpenGL render and get the wires over transparency.

In 2.80 as per discussion in https://blenderartists.org/t/alpha-transparency-with-opengl-render-of-viewport-in-2-8/1152335 you don't seem to be able to do this any more. Selecting the Workbench renderer and setting the Alpha Mode to Transparent does not capture the wireframe mode of course, and we can't find a way to get the viewport render to use transparency.

It seems like this is an issue with wireframe mode. I the other modes I get transparent background is if set the alpha mode to transparent in the render settings.

This can currently be worked around by setting the mode to solid and then activating the wireframe overlay and setting the object color alpha to zero.
