v2.80.53
Short description of error
this has been like this for over a week now...so i assumed no one has noticed it.
the components (verts, edges and faces) behaves like overlays.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
enter edit mode and select with any component then turn off overlays...and this of course with all rendering modes.

This is by design. Disabling Overlays is meant to give you a view that removes all the Overlays.
Many users model in one viewport using Solid View, but then see the result in another viewport using Rendered View. That didn’t work without this change.
wouldn't be best to make it an option in the overlays then?, edit mode components dispaly should be persistent it will threw people off...this is how it has been not only in blender but any 3d softwares.
@Znio.G In 2.79, if you switch to Rendered view, the overlays are not visible. So this does the same. When Overlays are disabled, they are disabled.
We could add an option inside the overlays popover for the edit overlays, just like we do for all other overlays.
i didn't use 2.79 too much i went straight to 2.80..so that's understandable, thanks.
