bpy.ops.object.transform_apply no working after physics simulation
Open, Confirmed, LowPublic

Description

System Information
Operating system: Windows 10 Pro
Graphics card: 2x Nvidia 1080 GTX

Blender Version
Broken: 2.8, b46245470f79, 2018-04-18
Worked: 2.7x

Short description of error
When running a rigid body simulation, it is not currently possible to apply transformation to freeze a specific frame. If you start scrubbing in the timeline, the object either goes back to original position or jumps to random position that was generated during the simulation.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. add a plane and add a passive rigid body
  2. add a suzanne and add an active rigid body
  3. run the simulation
  4. choose a frame
  5. select the suzanne object
  6. apply transformation/apply visual transformation
  7. scrub in the timeline

Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible).

Sebastian Parborg (zeddb) triaged this task as Confirmed, Medium priority.

I'm unsure if this is something that should be considered a regression. The behavior in 2.79 seems a bit buggy to as the animation resets on the start frame. So you haven't really "forzen" anything. The cache is just invalided it seems.

Sergey Sharybin (sergey) removed Sergey Sharybin (sergey) as the assignee of this task.

I do not see difference in behavior between 2.79b and current master.
Changes to object will indeed invalidate the cache, but its current implementation is still attempting to use cached frames even though they are marked as out of date.

This isn't really my area, and hopefully someone who works on a physics simulation will solve this.

Sergey Sharybin (sergey) lowered the priority of this task from Confirmed, Medium to Confirmed, Low.Mon, Jul 1, 2:26 PM
