Short description of error
Light shading looks different in eevee

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Deleted the default light in the default startup scene.
  2. Added Area light and increased the light power from 10W to 1000W
  3. slightly moved the light on top of the cube.

I see different light shading like the zigzag line. please check the screenshot and the attached blend file.

Brecht Van Lommel (brecht) lowered the priority of this task from Needs Triage by Developer to Waiting for Developer to Reproduce.

Not sure if this is a bug, or just typical shadow mapping artifacts that you have to tweak with parameters or workarounds. Will leave it to @Clément Foucault (fclem) to decide.
