Keyframes in Grease Pencil Dope Sheet do not "stack" like they do in other Dope Sheet modes #65376

version: 2.80 (sub 72), branch: blender2.7, commit date: 2019-05-29 18:17, hash: fee600f479, type: Release
build date: 2019-05-29, 23:51:52 (Build is two days old; apologies if this bug was fixed yesterday or something!)
platform: Linux

This is a minor UI issue with the Grease Pencil Dope Sheet. It requires no example file to reproduce.

Untitled.png

GP Keyframes in the dopesheet are only visible in the individual layer channels when the main channel is expanded. When the object channel is collapsed, the keyframes within are not visible at all, and cannot be manipulated. In the screenshot above, objects "Jerry" and "Scott" have keyframes, but you can't see them.

This is inconsistent with keyframe display in other Dope Sheet UI modes. In the standard Dope Sheet, the channel "groups" show a "summary" of the keyframes nested inside them. I'm having trouble finding the right words to identify these "meta" keyframes, since we call everything a keyframe, but it should be obvious what I'm talking about. Anyway, that behavior is very helpful and it seems that there's no reason it shouldn't work in the Grease Pencil Dope Sheet as well!

Actually, the Grease Pencil Dope Sheet is a special mode not related to the other modes. There are plans to integrate grease pencil inside the "general" Dope Sheet and remove the grease pencil mode.

@brecht As this is not a bug and there are plans to replace in the future versions, what do we do with this task?

If that is the case, I apologize for reporting an ongoing task as though it were a bug! Integrating GP keyframes into a generalized dope sheet sounds like a good idea.

I think we can close now this report as we have in ToDo list.

@rocketman No problem with the bug report, it's normal, for you looked a bug.
