System Information
Operating system: Linux-4.20.6-1-default-x86_64-with-glibc2.9 64 Bits - OpenSuse Tumbleweed
Graphics card: NVC4 nouveau 4.3 (Core Profile) Mesa 19.0.3 - Nvidia Quadro 3000M

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.80 (sub 72), branch: blender2.7, commit date: 2019-05-26 22:34, hash: d525c76003
Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
working with the modeller, rotating the model view, entire computer locks up until Blender crashes.

In the system resource monitor, I can see run away memory usage, until the crash kills Blender and memory is returned to the system and if functions again.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

Load model, start editing. Seemingly random time passes before crash occurs.

I have looked in /tmp for crash files, but have found nothing.

Does this happen with every .blend file? If not, please upload a .blend file that allows us to reproduce the issue.

If I render the following model, Blender crashes, the whole application terminates, or worse still, it will lock the desktop and the only way to recover is a computer restart.
Blender consistently crashes for me when rendering this file.

Satyr.01a.blend

I have 16 GB of RAM, while not huge, a lack of resources shouldn't be the problem.

I will continue to test and return to you with more information as to which conditions it crashes under.

I attempted to render the above blender file on the current PC version of 2.8, with the same results, Blender crashes.

Hi, can not reproduce crash or freeze on:

Master from today and buildbot from 4 June 2019.

Opensuse Tumbleweed x86_64
CPU i7-3520M 8 GB
GPU Intel HD4000
xf86-video-intel 2.99.917-6.1
KDE Plasma 5.54.5.11
Vivaldi 2.6.1566.6 (Official Build) snapshot (64-bit)

It seams you don´t use Nvidia driver?

No, I don't use the Nvidia driver on my Linux laptop.

However, I also attempted this render on another HP laptop with Windows installed. This too crashed.

I can also confirm a random crash whiled sculpting a new model on the Windows laptop.

Here is the system information of the Windows laptop.

system-info.txt

This confirms (for me) the bug/s are not machine specific or platform specific.

Let's try to focus on one issue per report. I could not reproduce the render crash but I'm on Windows. If you can, please start a new report for that.

From now on let's keep this ticket focused on the sculpting crash. With the blend file you attached, I'm not noticing any unexpected memory usage increase while sculpting or idling. It goes up when I sculpt new geometry by what seems like an appropriate amount.

Since it's been a while, could you confirm if this issue still persists for you on the latest build?

Same problem here.

Windows 8.1
nVidia GT740M

Even simple scenes crash abruptly on render (F12), like Blender is eating all the available RAM at once.
