Odd highlighting behavior when selecting multiple instances of the same collection #65553

version: 2.80 (sub 74), branch: blender2.7, commit date: 2019-06-05 19:33, hash: 8fa65ed31b, type: Release
build date: 2019-06-05, 23:13:21
platform: Linux

collection_instance_bug.blend

How to reproduce:

  • Open the file and inspect the three collection instances
  • In 3d view, select each instance, one after the other
  • Hold shift and select all three
  • Do this in different orders, get different results

Selecting the first collection instance seems to highlight all three of them, but when either of the the other two are selected individually, they are not highlighted. If you shift-select the instances left-to-right, the other two instances take on a bright white outline, which I don't think I've seen before in Blender. This doesn't always happen though, depending on what order the instances are selected.

This bug can be reproduced in any scene with multiple instances of the same collection. It only seems to effect highlighting in the 3d view.

That is quite confusing, indeed. Can't really explain why the behavior.

I have re-triaged this report and can not reproduce it.
Can you please check if this is still an issue in latest build?

As far as I can see, this issue has been fixed. I can no longer reproduce it either.
