Short description of error
Eevee contact shadows "Softness" setting is darkening all objects even objects that don't have any contact with each other. The shadow areas with contact are also darker than before. It worked fine 2 weeks ago. It affects all types of lights. See images below for comparison and attach file.

Notice the highlight areas of many cubes are darker even in the areas without contact shadow with each other.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Load attach file.
  2. Set view mode to render.
  3. Under Contact Shadows change the "Softness" settings to default of 0.2.
  4. Take a look the highlight areas of the cubes.
  5. Now change the "Softness" setting to 10.0.
  6. Notice the highlight areas of many cubes are much darker even in the areas without contact shadows with each other.

Here's screens from official builds of 3rd June d62a749fcf48 and 4th June e80cbdac331a:

contact shadows definitely got stronger between those two builds.

Eric Klein (eklein) renamed this task from EEVEE: Contact shadows darkens all objects to EEVEE: Contact shadows "Softness" settings darkens all objects.

I discover that it is the contact shadows "Softness" settings" that is making all object darker.

I updated the title and modify the steps to reproduce the bug.
