Can't reproduce here with latest master.

Operating system: Linux-4.15.0-48-generic-x86_64-with-debian-stretch-sid 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 750 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 384.130

Spent about five minutes changing section by dragging mouse up/down over list rapidly, toggling fields/panels by hovering with mouse and holding enter, and generally mucking about - no crashes.

Does it also crash if you have the preferences editor in the main window (eg. switch main 3d viewport to preferences), rather than opening from edit->preferences?

Yeah in Linux seems to not happen I think... And yeah same happens with the preferences in the main window. Time to crash is about more than a minute in most cases (between 1-2 minutes), weird thing. And yeah, I have tried cleaning all Blender stuff from my computer, "reinstall", etc... and just get the same issue.

I tried to reproduce this on windows and on both AMD Radeon HD 7570M and Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 but without result.

I can't repro, and now all my prefs are terrible since it autosaved.... guess i'm back to factory settings...

That's really weird... Just wonder if I'm the only one of the community having this issue hmm everything in Blender is stable for me but User preferences... idk what's going on. Can be something from my computer or? (This is from.. just now with last windows 64bits version)

At this point I would guess that a only a very small number of users are affected by this. As it has only been you that has reported and is able to reproduce the issue so far.

Archiving this for long inactivity.

@jfmatheu why are you disabling so many addons? I don't really think you want to do that. and I never tried it. It seems like shutting down parts of Blender that are useful.

It looks to me the user preferences works for a long time of slapping it around before it crashes.

You can even save preferences so if it crashes a lot you just set something up, save.. set something more up, save.. set somet-crash - start - set the last something more up, save.. and go:)

@AdamPreisler Uh? Disabling addons was just to make time, I could stay without doing anything and it will crash, doing several things over preferences wasn't the issue or the cause of the crash
Anyway, I think I don't have the issue, at least can't reproduce it now (probably cause the new Windows November update(?), idk...), so yeah, better to close this, thanks!
