Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
Toggle Window Fullscreen crashes Blender (and machine!) under Fedora 30! Using the menubar to switch to Window Fullscreen works, coming back, not so much, Blender disappears, nowhere to be seen and the fans of the computer come on hard. If a Terminal window was open it can be seen that Blender is still active and is increasingly using up CPU, until the entire machine locks up. The same problem does not occur under Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Just launch Blender, go to the Window-menu up top and select "Toggle Window Fullscreen". After a few seconds select the function again after which Blender seems to disappear.

Cannot reproduce here (fedora 30, nvidia 970m, 418.56 drivers, gnome, 5.0.16-300.fc30.x86_64)

  • has this been working before?
  • any recent OS / driver updates that caused this?

I grab Blender 2.80 beta daily and yes, three or four version back it worked fine.

Recent OS updates? Yes, this is Fedora 30, a Linux distro which keeps updating Linux kernels and such at a very frequent base. I'm at a 5.1.x cycle at the moment, you seem to be using 5.0.x, could it be that...?

Like I mentioned before, on Ubuntu 18.04.2LTS no problem, no problem with an Apple Macintosh either, running macOS 10.14.5, just this Fedora 30 fully up to date machine.

Just did a full upgrade to 5.1.12-300.fc30.x86_64, nvidia 430.26, still no problems here...

Did you test Ubuntu on the same machine/hardware?

The earlier Ubuntu test was on another machine running 18.04.2LTS, but for completeness, I just formatted the machine running Fedora 30 and installed Ubuntu 19.04 on it, Blender its "Toggle Window Fullscreen" performed flawlessly.

I also did a complete clean install of Fedora 30 on that same machine but with no updates / upgrades whatsever on that machine and Blender crashes the machine upon wanting to return from Fullscreen mode.

Could it be that the difference between Fedora/Ubuntu is the GPU drivers then?

Is there anything I can do to test that? It is not a machine with a real GPU, just an Intel HD 4000.

That’s most likely a GPU driver issue yes… trying either a newer or older version of it might help?

Also, maybe @Clément Foucault (fclem) or @Jeroen Bakker (jbakker) have some ideas here?

Here are some of the requested info-files, all created on the same machine, just switching between Fedora 30, where the Window Fullscreen causes a crash upon returning and Ubuntu 19.04, where it works like a charm... :
