Delete Branch "%!s(<nil>)"
Deleting a branch is permanent. Although the deleted branch may continue to exist for a short time before it actually gets removed, it CANNOT be undone in most cases. Continue?

Short description of error
After adding or deleting a bone, object picker lists are not updated.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

Bones added with Shift+D don't show this problem.
Try also:
Bones added with Shift+D and then deleted before leaving Edit Mode will correctly update the object picker (shows in red).

Confirmed here in RC1 as well as current master.
We talked a bit about this and came to the conclusion that we will not support this use case (adjusting drivers in edit mode).
This is because the drivers depend on pose mode data and that is usually not updated when in edit mode.
For example if you move the bones in edit mode, the driver curves will not update either and so on.
If we were to support this, we would have to keep the pose mode and edit mode data in sync after every operation and that would defeat the purpose of having them separate.
