Improve SVG to Curve add-on to generate Grease Pencil strokes #67065

As part of the SVG workflow we need improve the import of SVG data into blender.

The main points of this change are:

  • Support more parameters as stroke color, opacity, etc.
  • Import layers as collections (optional). These collections will be used as GPencil layer too.
  • Generate in one step grease pencil strokes (this will use the functions created in #66452).

HI Antonio,
Is there any plan to import 3d Curves as well to be imported as greasepencil?
SVG is great, but flat-
3d Curves coming from Cad/design Software or Architecture Software would be great if converted to GP (maybe Iges, dwg formats?)
my hack right now is to export .obj(as it can somehow keep curves...) and convert them to GP- it works, but is quite frustrating.

  • Also, is it possible to have "convert curve to greasepencil" as a modifier? or having greasepencil atribites in the curve properties?
Last but not least, are there any plans to port the "pose brush" from the sculpting-tools over to the GreasePencilSculpting-tools? would be awsome!

He had plans to include the SVG conversion to Grease Pencil in 2.83, but as we have been doing a huge refactor, adding features very important for SVG import, we decided to postpone the import after we have in place the refactor. About 3D curves we have no plans now about that, but this could change in the future.

The main problem for SVG and/or 3d curves import is just a matter of time and resources, because we have a long To Do list.

Very interesting, Thanks for answering- my Background is Automotive design, and I have the feeling that Greasepencil ist already very close to vr Tools like Gravitysketch https://www.gravitysketch.com/- at least the sketchin/curve workflow- but from my view i find it even superioir in some ways...
I am just really exited and curioius on which directions GP can develop :)

  • any chance that GP will get an shrinkwrap modifier to project it onto geometry in an non destructive way?
