Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.80 (sub 74), branch: master, commit date: 2019-07-11 13:50, hash: rB06312c6d2db8
Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
Intermittently, attempting to save a render will lock up computer, sometimes produces blue screen.

This doesn't happen constantly, but out of 12 renders, 4 caused my computer to lock up when trying to save them. Re-rendering and saving seems fine as the issue is not produced on every save.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Save a rendered image.

Cannot reproduce here.

  • Assume you are using either Save, Save As or Save a Copy from the Image Editor?
  • Does this happen when saving .blend files as well?
  • Could you share the settings you are saving with? (screenshot of the Save As Image panel is sufficient...)
  • Is this reproducable with the default cube scene as well? If not, please provide a minimal blendfile where this occurs...
  • Yes, save as from the image Editor
  • No this has not happened while saving .blend files
  • I will attach a screenshot
  • I have not tried reproducing this with the default cube scene, here is the mostly full .blend file, simply hitting F12, saving the final render and repeating will eventually lead to a system lockup or blue screen.

I did reduce the amount of threads used during render and that does seem to have stopped the crashing as I finished the remaining renders without a crash.

Just wanted to inform you all that I believe this was somehow caused by a bad Bluetooth driver. Just recently I was having even more system wide issues. After some googling I found the new none Blender issues to be related to a Bluetooth driver which had been automatically updated. I was still experiencing the same random crashes when saving a render. Once I disabled and uninstalled that driver, not only did my new system issues stop, but I no longer seem to be having those random blue screens while saving a render. Today I have rendered out about 20 different product renders from the same file I had attached previously and have not experienced a single blue screen.

If anyone else is running into this issue, check your device manager for any drivers with a yellow icon and uninstall it or roll back to an older version of that driver. This is what worked for me.
