Short description of error
Autosave loads default start up scene.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

A crash occurred when switching from sculpt mode to normal mode in the Sculpting workspace (default settings.) Auto save said last save was two minutes ago but only loaded up the start up cube in the default workspace when clicked on.

This was done from a new project which had yet to be saved normally(that's on me lol.)

check in system temp folder for last saved .blend. This must be your last previous work

I started working on a new project since (saved instantly.) Going back to the autosave with the same save time and trying to drop it into blender gave an error, saying it could not be opened and that it was missing a DNA block

Had it happen again on the new save file under the same conditions. (sculpting in sculpt workspace, crashing when going from sculpt to normal mode.) Trying to open the file in blender shows the start up cube in default workspace. Dragging the file in to open gives an error of missing DNA blocks. (I saved this time though so not much work lost haha!)

you had report 2 issue here, one bug related to crash in sculpt mode already reported from other users.

your primary issue report is related to autosave, can you find on your HD a file *_autosave.blend? as i already wrote this nameyourproject_autosave.blend can be find in some temp folder in your HD (i am not windows user, i don't know windows temp folder path)
If you had enable autosave and you find these files, autosave function work as expected

autosave work on linux with Rc2 and Dailybuild and also on 2.79B

p.s. your GPU drivers is outdated, you can had issues to use Blender

Driver updated and started a new sculpt. Ok, here's first the autosave and also the actual save file (where I saved just before the crash occurred from switching to object mode.) These crashes are the instantforce close to desktop variety. On the last sculpt I did have some cases where the window stopped responding while sculpting (client greyed out and windows "program has stopped working" showed up.) On these type of crashes the autosave functioned fine (I don't have an example on hand unfortunately.

i suppose your system ram is not sufficient to made your Blender use without involve windows virtual memory, lag on interface can depend of disk writing on VMemory

next time you can use Help > Report a Bug item and and attach a simple .blend file, before you made a bugreport you must search if bug/issue is already reported from others users

The crashing related to switching from sculpting to object mode seems to have been fixed in release candidate 3. I haven't had any other crash to desktop occurrences since that update so I'm unsure about the autosave portion. (they worked fine outside of said crash.)
