q key crashes blender RC3 when it file menuto q key crashes blender RC3 when in file menuAdded subscriber: @rjg
This seems like a wrongly mapped shortcut. Instead of
CTRL + q
, pressing justq
in the file menu triggers the Close Blender shortcut. Same behavior happens in Blender 2.79b.Added subscriber: @zeauro
When you open a menu, each item has an underlined character.
This underlined character corresponds to a quick access shortcut to execute this item.
So, if you open File menu and press N. It opens New submenu.
If you press 0. It opens file browser.
If you press R. It opens Open Recent submenu.
If you press S. It saves file.
If you press A. It opens file browser to Save As.
...etc
If you press Q, it quits.
So, that is a feature.
But maybe, quit prompt should show up.

@zeauro You're right, I didn't know this. It's mentioned in the documentation . Are the underlying characters for each entry documented somewhere?
I agree the prompt that is usually shown before closing should also appear in this case.

Just checked the prompt is shown on both Linux and Windows when unsaved changes are in the scene.
Changed status from 'Open' to: 'Archived'
I'm archiving this ticket, because the behavior works as documented, including the prompt to save the file.
My mistake. As a Mac user I am not familiar with quitting being under the file menu. I'd more likely look in the OS level Blender menu or the blender logo menu within the blender window.
@thinsoldier Can you just verify that after editing the scene going to the file menu and pressing q also results in the prompt to save the file? I haven't tested on macOS and this should also work there.
