Short description of error
Branched Path Tracing exhibits odd behavior if progressive refine is on for Path Tracing. With denoising, it will act as expected, but turn off denoising and Branched Path Tracing will act as though it were rendering using progressive refine. Turn denoising back on and it will use tiles again. Only after switching path tracing mode to Path Tracing can you access and turn off "progressive refine", only then will Branched Ray Tracing use tiles with denoising off.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Turn progressive refine on for Path Tracing, switch to Branched Ray Tracing. Turn denoising on. It will render with tiles. Turn denoising off. It will render with progressive refine.

Progressive Refine is a setting for both Path Tracing and Branched Path Tracing (you dont turn it ON for Path Tracing alone...)
I think there was a time when Progressive Refine disabled Denoising , but now Denoising will just force to render with tiles (disable Progressive Refine) it seems, see 6199a606a6.

So this seems to be expected behavior, will close this (but feel free to comment again if issues persist...)
