Blender 2.80 snake hook slow on Ubuntu 19.04, fast on Windows 10 #69227

Operating system: Ubuntu 19.04 (fully updated)
Graphics card: RTX 2080 Ti

Broken: 2.80 with no addons installed, installed with snap --classic

Snake hook is super slow in Ubuntu with periodic freezes that last 3 seconds or more. System monitor doesn't show any signs of stress compared to idle cpu usage.

Strangely Windows with same version/hardware has no issue and runs smoothly.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
To reproduce:

Ctrl-N for new sculpting setup, without moving view at all, select snake hook, set dyntopo with constant detail of 20, set radius of brush to 260 and drag upper corner of default sphere. I get really bad lag in Ubuntu 19.04, but have no issue on Windows 10.

i personally would not instal blender useing snap.. i remember when i instaled blender from ubuntu apps.. and it didn't for example had alembic export at all.. so... those stuff is really bugged and a gimmick.. can u download latest experimental build and do the test ? not with snap

download blender from official site https://www.blender.org/download/, unpack it and try again to confirm this bug

However:

Blender need updated proprietary Nvidia drivers to work properly and without problem, specially on linux system. Update your GPU linux drivers from Nvidia support site can solve/mitigate this problem
You forgot to upload a simplest possible .blend file to reproduce this problem, just as you forgot to fill in the relevant data as requested in the bug template
The operating system, main memory size, GPU brand and model, GPU driver version and Blender hash or its build date may be needed by developers to investigate this problem
Before making a new error report, the use of the 'Search' box (top right on the BugTracker Reporting page) is very much appreciated to check if the errors / problems have already been reported by other users, every minute you dedicate at this is a minute earned by the developer to fix bugs. The duplication of the bugreport is a waste of time and resources for the developers

Presumably the underlying issue is the same as D5429: Limit grab brush updates per second that fix did not affect snake hook.
