Short description of error
Attempting to sculpt after setting Stroke->Spacing distance to "Scene" results in crash as soon I try to sculpt.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
No .blend file included since this crashes using the default startup scene...

Steps to reproduce:

  • Ctrl-N to create a new file and choose General
  • Observe the standard scene w/ the default cube
  • Switch to the Sculpting workspace
  • In the Properties window in the Active Tool tab open the Stroke panel
  • Change Spacing Distance from View to Scene via the pulldown
  • The current sculpt brush should still be Draw if nothing has been changed (a SculptDraw brush)
  • Attempt to sculpt across the cube
  • Observe that Blender crashes or exists outputting 'Abort trap: 6' to the terminal.

Couldn't reproduce the crash on Nvidia/Windows 10 with the latest alpha build.

I'm using a local build. It looks like I'm building from a later commit than you are testing against (11:47 vs 10:52). ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is still crashing/exiting for me on the latest build done on my Mac as well as with the current daily build from blender.org (version: 2.81 (sub 8), branch: master, commit date: 2019-09-07 16:22, hash: rBabeab4fcad66)

Dalai Felinto (dfelinto) triaged this task as Needs Information from User priority.

I cannot reproduce this with either the latest stable, current development version or the one you mentioned originally.

  1. Can you please go to File → Defaults → Load Factory Settings and then load your file to see if you still can reproduce this issue.
  1. Also, since you build your own Blender, any chance you can build a Debug build of Blender (CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Debug, WITH_COMPILER_ASAN=ON, WITH_ASSERT_ABORT=ON)? This way you can get the crash backtrace from gdb:
$gdb ./Blender.app/Resources/...(forgot where is blender on OSX, sorry).../blender

I hadn't checked for over a week. But today this crash/exit seems to be gone. Magic or deliberate fix, I suppose this task can be closed now. Thanks.
