Short description of error
Node editor isn't displaying the selected image in node editor nor is it rendering on the object in 3d view with rendering on.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
1 Create plane
2 create material
3 assign image in texture settings.
4. pick image in image-data block settings in UV editor. Image displays in UV editor.
5. in materials select "use nodes"
6. create a node with an image input and output
7. load same image into the image input as used in texture settings. connect image input to the output via 'color' connector. texture does not appear in 3d edit mode, nor does image appear in the little boxes in node editor (screenshot included along with blend file).

You are using the Texture Node Editor (this is meant for editing textures used for brushes etc.)

Will close this as not-a-bug, but feel free to comment again if issues persist...

You are using the `Texture Node Editor` (this is meant for editing textures used for brushes etc.) - You need to use the `Shader Editor` instead - You also need to set your `Viewport Shading` to `Material Preview` [plane basic node edit example corrected.blend](https://archive.blender.org/developer/F7781567/plane_basic_node_edit_example_corrected.blend) Will close this as not-a-bug, but feel free to comment again if issues persist...
