System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.18362 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 1080 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 431.70

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.80 (sub 75), branch: master, commit date: 2019-07-29 14:47, hash: f6cb5f5449
Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
Export save dialogs do not have any file overwrite prompts. This can be destructive to existing files the file format is being exported in. The Import and Export menu entries are next to each other with very similar icons, making them very easy to mistake for each other, and on top of that File Explorer save window looks almost identical too with only difference being one button title. Furthermore, when adding import and export entries into quick favorites, they have identical names and can not be renamed:

Once user mistakes Export window for Import one, and proceeds to select and execute any file (with the intention to import it), the file gets immediately overwritten without any error prevention measure in form of file overwrite confirmation dialog, resulting in original file contents being destroyed immediately.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Select any objects and go to File>Export>FBX
  2. Select already existing FBX file and hit enter

Result: Selected file is overwritten
Expected: Confirmation dialog pops up before overwriting the FBX file, giving user chance to realize he's in the Export browser, not the Import one.

This seems like it belongs in the paper cut thread and not the bug tracker:

Alright, but last time I reported something regarding destructive data operations, it was taken seriously despite not being technically a bug:
