System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.15063 64 Bits
Graphics card: Quadro K2200/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 416.78

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.81 (sub 14), branch: master, commit date: 2019-10-09 22:31, hash: rBf61a8a2abd07
Worked: (blender 2.77)

Short description of error
I just can't select any object, that are perpendicular to view:

Have to switch to perspective or do some rotate view. When you add to this issue with selecting too small objects (https://developer.blender.org/T63356), that causes your work hard.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Remove everything from scene.
  2. Switch to top view.
  3. Add a plane.
  4. Rotate it 90 degree X axis.
  5. Duplicate it many times.
  6. Select them using border select tool.
  7. Notice, that only active element was selected.

I intentionally placed GIF with all nonactive objects. Circle select and Lasso select tool work fine.

[Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible)]

This is really tied to T63356 very much.
It is really the same issue to be honest (though a special case - perpendicular planes would make it even harder to show up in any drawing method).

But I dont think it is worth having a separate report open for this.

Btw.: workaround for now (that was also mentioned in T63356) is to enable Viewport Overlays > Origins (All) -- this makes sure you have something selectable shown in the viewport.
