Short description of error
area light behind panel you can see the point of the volumetric generation option_volumtric_issue1.blend

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
open attached blend file i've attached an image and circled the issue volumetric issue.JPG
[Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible)]

in addition is there anyway to have area lights not just have volumetrics at the center point? if it was generated from the whole panel of the area light that would be amazingly helpful in making it look more realistic

18,800 objects is hardly simplified.

Also your daily build is 3 weeks old.

However, I can confirm that I am able to reproduce with 59b16e28d9

The 3 lights that should be occluded from view are visible once the volumetric view distance is set to 220' or further.

I tested with today's 2.81 it was still broken, I already had the thread created and file uploaded but didn't hit submit.

My apologies on the large file i left the arena in there and such as i mostly deal with larger areas and didn't know if that would cause issues and i did see it in other areas when moving around just that was the easiest one to find.

Also you guys are awesome with the speedy feedback :) is the area lights generating from a point something or just a current short coming off Eevee?

Increasing the Samples in the Volumetrics panel seems to solve the problem, so I don't think this is a bug.

still same bug present 2 years later, samples are at 256 and cannot go higher yet you can still see it through the object.. have tested on 2.93, 3, and 3 with ssgi build. all have the issue present and it's not just if the light is inside the object I've had it happen in other projects not setup like this I just deleted the light as I was in the middle of a time crunch

apparently the response I had previously typed wasn't posted. But it seems like a bug as I wouldn't imagine thats its intended display when it was working properly in 2.8
