Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

Event Timeline

Otakar (Otakar) updated the task description. (Show Details)

There is no Animate Property button in 2.80 or 2.82. Pressing I-Key over the count gives an error message "count property cannot be animated"

I'm not sure it makes sense animate the particle count. Right now, the count is a property of the particle system - the total number of particles emitted over the system lifetime. That could be changed to particles emitted per unit time, but would require some internal re-design work.

tl;dr: This is an implementation detail and not a bug.

Ok, then, there probably shouldnt be the button, see image attached

Sorry, I can't quite read your screen shot, but there is no animate button on the Emission->Number field in 2.80 or 2.82. Am I looking in the wrong place or is this a result of using a 2.80 build from 2019-07-29?

attaching new screenshot, the button circled i guess is supposed to keyframe value

Stephen Swaney (stiv) lowered the priority of this task from 90 to 50.Nov 21 2019, 5:33 PM

Thank you!

My apologies. I was looking at the wrong field. Sorry for all the noise.
This *does* seem like something that should be key-frameable.

Confirmed.
I know there is on-going work for a new particle system, so I'm not sure how this fits in. Priority set to Medium

Dalai Felinto (dfelinto) renamed this task from CANNOT KEYFRAME PARTICLE COUNT PROPERTY to Cannot keyframe particle count property.Jan 10 2020, 3:12 PM
Dalai Felinto (dfelinto) changed the subtype of this task from "Report" to "Known Issue".

The particle system is being refactored (replaced by a node system) so we keep the report open, but as a known issue.
