Event Timeline

note about how I got to do the ctrl-pagedown: I'm an "eternal newbie" with blender, been using it sporadically since 2.49; I knew there were keymap changes in the new >=2.80 versions, so I was trying my muscle memory, looking for how to change the "layout", and once i found it (i.e. ctrl-pagedown / ctrl-pageup), I just naturally pressed it multiple times, producing the unanticipated crash.

Alon Levy (aleflamed) updated the task description. (Show Details)

Hi, thanks for the report. I note all your crash backtrace are freeing memory in filelist_clear_ex.

I tried this in 2.81 and my master debug build but it wouldn't crash.

I would expect it to be hard to reproduce based on the amount of ctrl-pagedown I had to do. Perhaps it is a race condition, and you need a slow machine to reproduce. Artificially placing a sleep somewhere, if only I knew where, could help reproduce.. Feel free to close as "can't reproduce", I just thought this bug report might be useful. I love blender and appreciate all the work that goes into it, wanted to do a little to help :)

I held it down for a good 5 minutes while something was building on my computer, but it's fine maybe someone else can reproduce. Probably someone with Intel graphics would be good to try.

I can't reproduce the problem either.

I can reproduce this, however there seem to be several bugs that can cause crashes here...

I get different backtraces, based on whether I click while pressing ctrl+pagedown, or if I just press ctrl+pagedown.
With clicking, it is very reliable. Just pressing the buttons often takes minutes before it crashes.

Below, I have attached several gdb sessions.
The last 2 were created with additionally clicking while holding the buttons.
All 3 have different traces.
