Open, Needs Information from UserPublic

Description

System Information
Operating system: macOs Mojave Version 10.14.5
Graphics card: Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB

Blender Version
Broken: (example: 2.81, 2.81 2019-11-27)

In object mode I select Armature first and mesh second. Change to Weight Paint and the mesh has the color code (green). After I select a Bone with Shift + LMB the color code for the mesh is away (grey).

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
I am following this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nK0nRAMSRZQ
It's in version 2.79 and without screencast keys (horrible :D). I'm at minute 5:30 - 6:00 where he's weight painting some vertices.
I hope it's just a thing of settings like in 'View'.
If someone has a better tutorial for rigging a rolling and bouncing ball, you're welcome to share the link with me :)

Thanks for help

Just to make sure: could you share your .blend file here? (this ensures we are all on the same page...)

On the second screenshot I'm seeing some navigation icons missing. Given that's an Intel, could be a driver issue?

Here is my blender file:

The Bones are on different layers.

You mean the Zoom, Move, Cam, Orthographic-Buttons right? I haven't noticed that.
I updated to the newest macOS Catalina version now, so the graphic driver should be updated too, but I got still the same problem.

I tried it with a windows partition on the same device and it works.
Unfortunately I don't know how this will help me to solve the problem on macOs. Maybe someone of you have an idea...
