Short description of error
On loading a large collada file (377 MB), Blender does not complete the import process. Fortunately the import task of the same file has been completed by blender 2.73 in about 5 minutes while the 2.81 process was still working after more or less 3 hours.

Unfortunately I cannot distribute the collada file I was using. Anyhow I simply opened blender 2.81 and asked to import the file.
