Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.81 (sub 16), branch: master, commit date: 2019-11-20 14:27, hash: rB26bd5ebd42e3. Microsoft Store edition.
Worked: version 2.79. Microsoft Store edition.

Short description of error
Blender application name shown as "BlenderFoundation.Blender" in start menu, app settings, task manager, and other locations of Windows 10.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Uninstall any existing versions of Blender
  2. Open Microsoft Store app
  3. Search for "Blender" and open the app page in the Microsoft Store
  4. Click "Install"
  5. Open Start menu and verify application title shows "BlenderFoundation.Blender"
  6. Start Blender, press CTRL-SHIFT-ESC. Verify application name in task manager shows "BlenderFoundation.Blender"
  7. Open Windows Settings, click Apps, verify entry for blender shows "BlenderFoundation.Blender" with company name of "Blender Foundation"
  8. In Windows Settings, click Apps, click Default apps, click "Choose default applications by file type", scroll down to ".blend", verify app name in list of options shows "BlenderFoundation.Blender".

It appears as the application title in the Microsoft Store application manifest is incorrect.

Event Timeline

Sergey Sharybin (sergey) lowered the priority of this task from 90 to Normal.

From my understading that this is how the store was actually expecting the manifest to be, otherwise it was reporting an error.

The manifest contains DisplayName set to "Blender". That is something one would expect to be displayed :)

Not sure if there anything we can tweak though. How did the previous release appear in the task manager?

2.79 release of Blender in the Windows Store showed "Blender" or "blender" as the application title in the start menu and other areas of the OS.

Which tool is being used to package Blender for the store? The name of the package should be left as "BlenderFoundation.Blender" and there should be a separate field for "Display name".

Package manifest schema reference for Windows 10
Refer to the "DisplayName" and "Description" fields. <Identity Name="BlenderFoundation.Blender"> is likely the one being rendered in the absence of a display name.

Francesco Siddi (fsiddi) changed the task status from Unknown Status to Resolved.Dec 5 2019, 8:13 PM

As we published 2.81a the name should have been changed to "blender". Feel free to reopen if this is not the case.
