Short description of error

  • Drop this Vietnamese translation file:

into the directory (2.82/datafiles/locale/vi/LC_MESSAGES)

  • Turning on the Vietnamese by going to 'Preferences->Interface->Translation' and choose Vietnamese from the popup, choose to turn on translation texts for 'Interface' and 'Tooltips' only.
  • In the 3D Viewport, press 'Q' and note the last item 'Preferences...' is in Vietnamese, while all others are still in English:

while all these texts are already translated:

For easier references, here is the two screenshots for these menu items:

English screenshot:

Vietnamese screenshot:

Switch the interface back to English, by turning off 'Translate' and press 'Q' again to see the Vietnamese (in different encoding - not UTF-8) is stuck in the place of 'Preferences...'

It is expected that when interface was changed to Vietnamese, all translated items will reflect what is translated (if translations are available).

If the 'translation' flag is turned off, every pieces of text should be changed back to English original.

Most certainly “same” issue as in T68367, translation was not taken into account when designing those new fancy UI features…

Closed too quick, recall having this reported before, although this isn't a duplicate of T68367.

I don't think we will support translations for the quick favorites menu, since it means storing the translation context for each menu item and translating the name.

Even if we attempted to support this, there would be problems in cases where Blender's translations change between releases, where storing the original-name & translation-context wouldn't work as desired.

Once we have a menu editor (see T73178) you can name the menu items how you like.

Closing since I don't think this is something we're going to support.
