Undo Sculpt operation also switches brush unexpectedly #72984

System Information
Operating system: Darwin-16.7.0-x86_64-i386-64bit 64 Bits
Graphics card: AMD Radeon HD - FirePro D500 OpenGL Engine ATI Technologies Inc. 4.1 ATI-1.54.3

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.81 (sub 16), branch: master, commit date: 2019-12-04 11:32, hash: f1aa4d18d4
Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
When I Undo a sculpt operation, in Sculpt Mode, blender also switches brushes, changing to the Draw brush. This makes every undo step a 2-step operation, unless I actually wanted to use the Draw brush next. In other words, the current brush selection doesn't "stick" when I perform an Undo.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Open blender.
Add Cube.
Go to Sculpt Mode.
Choose Smooth brush.
Click on Cube mesh to sculpt.
Type CMD Z or call up Undo History and click on the most recent operation (in this case, Smooth Brush).
Undo succeeds in undoing the sculpting BUT it changes brushes.
This requires an extra step after each undo (artist must again reselect the brush unless the brush used was Draw).
[Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible)]

I can confirm this. I have also experienced this exact issue, but I was unable to reproduce it reliably in a new file.

It is more related to the #69760
I'll merge the reports.

I will close as dublicate, But I am not able to reproduce.

@mooncaine can you try latest daily build?
Also if this issue is not 100% reproducible based on provided steps, please let us know about that.

Yes, I tried latest build just a few minutes ago.

The bug is not reproducible in the build. I opened it, and tried the steps as listed. This was tested with whatever default settings are present in the build.

I reopened the build, and chose to 'load 2.81 settings' (to get my fave keybd shortcuts), but it crashed.

The first test made me wonder if 2.81 would still show Undo bug if I loaded the factory default settings instead of my own preferences. I tried that. The bug doesn't happen in 2.81, either, if I use the factory defaults.

I tried 2.81 again, this time with my normal set of preferences... and the bug is reproducible in that case, reliably, every time I try.

Hope this helps! Thanks and good luck.

Update: It seems that this bug is being caused by having the option in Preferences > Input > Emulate 3 Button Mouse. Turning this off instantly solved the issue for me.

Hope this helps!

I don't believe this is related to either #69760 or #71759.

This same issue is happening to me too, a short time after I updated to Blender 3.1.2 .
Before, in 2.93.2 I did not have any problem.

I noticed that it switches any selected brush to draw brush when I undo a stroke. It doesn't matter how long I was using the active brush before the undo, or if I was using a third brush before the active brush.
Example:
I sculpt with clay strips, switch to inflate and sculpt with that but as soon as I undo, it switches back to draw brush.
So it is not just reverting to old settings.

It also happens when I select a new brush before redoing and operation. When there are no steps to redo and I press the shortcut it does not change the brush. Only when it actually performs the redo action.
I don't know if it matters but I changed the redo short cut from ctrl+shift+Z to ctrl+Y. I also tried to turn off the keymap shortcut for the draw brush with no result.
Emulate 3 Button Mouse was turned off already for me.

once I managed to fix it by saving my scene, closing and reopening blender but it came back soon after and then closing blender did not help.

with the 3.6 I've had the problem of undo and every time my brush become a clay strips.

to solve I've copied my project objects and I've pasted it in a new blender file

Can confirm this is a common issue for me in 3.6 when sculpting. Its a horrible bug as you have to create a brand new scene in order to get rid of it.

I have attached a scene with the issue.

Thanks
