Scale Cage sometimes has incorrect center in edit mode
Confirmed, NormalPublicBUG

Description

System Information
Operating system: Windows 10
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 940MX

Blender Version
Broken: v 2.81a

Short description of error
On some meshes, when selecting a group of vertices and dragging the scale cage, the vertices scale around an incorrect center, totally disconnected from the scale cage.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Open the attached .blend file. Vertices are already selected.

Drag the bottom side of the scale cage up.

This happens on an object with origin not at the global origin:

  • objectmode seems to be fine always
  • editmode is bad on first usage of the Scale Cage tool (after entering editmode)
  • editmode is bad after Undo of the Scale Cage tool
  • offset corresponds to objects obmat

Philipp Oeser (lichtwerk) changed the subtype of this task from "Report" to "Bug".

Can confirm, checking...

This starts to kick in when undoing the scaling/resizing by the Scale Cage tool (then the transform center seems off on the next drag).
Once you are in this "bad" state, you can use the Scale Cage tool again (or do any other transform) to return to a "good" state

Other [possibly related?] problematic undo and gizmos in T69164...

Soo, to recap, this happens on an object not at the global origin:

  • objectmode seems to be fine always
  • editmode is bad on first usage of the Scale Cage tool (after entering editmode)
  • editmode is bad after Undo of the Scale Cage tool
  • offset corresponds to objects obmat
