Eevee black screen on first frame #73655

System Information
Operating system: Linux-4.4.0-154-generic-x86_64-with-debian-stretch-sid 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 980 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 440.44

It happens also on Ubuntu 16.08 with multiple GTX1080Ti.

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.81 (sub 16), branch: master, commit date: 2019-12-04 11:32, hash: f1aa4d18d4
Worked: on Blender 2.81 Windows 10 version.

Short description of error
I get black screen when render the very first frame after blender start i.e. another render of the same frame works. The same behaviour when rendering animation, first frame is black.

I also get black output from command line on the first frame.

I tried to reproduce on small scene but I cannot, it must be related to the complexity of this particular scene somehow.
I have approval from author of the project, please find it attached.

I tried the recent 2.82 build and it has the same issue.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Open Blender 2.81
  2. Open attached scene skull-ivy-4 (2).blend
  3. Render first frame (F12) -> black screen
  4. Render the same frame again -> normal output
  5. To get black output again, Blender's restart is required.

Thank you for the report. I can confirm the issue using 2.81a and today's daily 2.82.

I had no issue using 2.83, neither today's build bot build or my own from a few days ago, so it appears the bug has been fixed already.

The step 3 caused a memory usage increase to 6 gigs, after which I force quit blender. Closing this in favour of a simplified file with apparently same underlying issue.
