Unhelpful error message when trying to knife project a manifold object
Closed, ResolvedPublicTO DO

Description

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.83 (sub 2), branch: master, commit date: 2020-02-04 23:04, hash: rB79003fa0c415

Short description of error
When you try to knife project an object without wire/boundary edges, you get this not so helpful error message:

"No other selected objects found to use for projection"

Better would be something like:
"Projected object does not have any wire or boundary edges"
or
"Wire or boundary edges required for knife projection",
so you know what the actual problem is.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Open Blender
  • With the Cube selected go to edit mode
  • Duplicate and Move the Cube
  • Mesh -> Knife Project

Event Timeline

Can you upload a blend-file with an example object?

I don't think that is needed, simply add two cubes to your scene and try to knife project one on the other to see this happening.
