Mantaflow in 2.82 not working

Short description of error
After generating flip and mesh data - there is no activity when attempting to preview a simulation of fluid. It's as if the flip data isn't being generated.

Attached is a copy of the blend file.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

I guess this will be the same issue as T73927

When I made simple fluid sim it worked well. We will need steps to reproduce.

The Inflow mesh (cylinder) is too small - double the diameter of the cylinder and particles start emitting ....

Hmm that is quite weird and mainly undocumented limitation.

Bastien Montagne (mont29) changed the subtype of this task from "Report" to "Bug".

Too small inflow objects compared to the domain's resolution will not produce anything indeed, assigning to you @Sebastián Barschkis (sebbas) so that you keep track of the issue (as discussed, should be at least documented, ideally user could get a warning when they try to bake such setup).

Closing this report since it is not really a bug. From a usability perspective, I agree that a warning would be nice.
For now, please either

  • use higher resolutions. The voxel indicator of the domain should size-wise "fit into" any emitter object.
  • or when using low resolutions, use "Is Planar" for flow objects. This will ensure their initialization on the grid-level and they will emit fluid.
