Blender Version

Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
When simulating mantaflow gas and using cycles preview, Blender instantly crashes when I try to scrub through the timeline. Bug happens on two separate computers (geforce 970, also windows 10) on factory defaults. On both CPU and GPU preview. The crash doesn't happen when there's no material assigned or it's anything other than principled volume.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Set up a basic smoke simulation
  2. Set the material to principled volume
  3. Preview it in cycles
  4. Try scrubbing through timeline

Please add the blend file too

of course you have to bake the simulation first to make it crashable

Assertion failed: (i < datasize_), function operator[], file intern/cycles/render/../util/util_array.h, line 212.
It won't crash if you play the animation for even 1 or 2 seconds, before scrubbing.

@Ankit Meel (ankitm) when you confirm a bug report, make sure it always has the relevant module project assigned.
