(Windows 10, 2.83 daily build from today)

I can't reproduce the flickering, but generating thumnails for .png files seems to have a much much higher load than any other format for me too. While testing this a bit out I also had a moment where the CPU kept at 80% load even though all thumbnails for the .pngs in the folder had been generated; couldn't reproduce that one though.

Can not reproduce flickering on windows.
CPU usage is normal, something has to make these thumbnails and the more CPU's are being used, the faster they are generated.

@iss If the CPU usage is normal, why is Blender 2.82 not using the same amount? Here is a direct comparison between 2.82 and today's master branch:

I couldn't do a bisect because at a certain point there were building errors and after about 10 bisect skip I gave up^^

@ronsn CPU usage is probably same, but file browser seems to be stuck in a loop. I have done test on 100 images and saw little difference. Even 100 images was too fast to properly sample CPU usage.

If you could pause execution during file loading and post stacktrace of main thread + at least 1 worker it may help. Or perhaps add some break points to see if there is pattern. I am not very familiar with filebrowser code, so I can't suggest anything better, that's what I would do.

It seems that we update libs too often making bisect quite difficult :)

This is caused by 2841b2be39
It is the same issue as #74612 (Filebrowser does not show thumbnails), @brecht is on it, will merge these reports...

@ronsn I don't know if you still have that problem, but I had it for two days now. I found that reseting the preferences to factory solved my issue. I still haven't found the parameter that caused it, but it's a beginning. Let me know if you have made progress.

Resettings blender settings does work, but not for long.
