glitch with cut off text with custom font #74666

System Information
Operating system: Arch Linux
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 980

Blender Version
Broken: Blender 2.82 stable (latest)
Worked: As far as I know this hasn't worked since I first tried using some monospaced fonts for the blender UI

Short description of error

When setting the interface font to a monospaced font like Fira Mono Regular (font used in the example image) the text that gets cut off when it doesnt fit in its allocated space shows a weird vertical rectangle.

I used another font called Iosevka which is monospaced too and it displays the two point ellipsis correctly, so I don't know if it is particular to the Fira Mono Regular font or some weird glyph bug. Fira Mono is quite a popular font, that's why I took the chance to report the bug. If it ain't a blender bug that's ok too but that's the font I use on gnome and it works quite well.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Set the interface font under the preferences to Fira Mono Regular (it doesn't happen with every monospaced font but I've seen it happen at least with two of them)

Apparently the character is not available in this custom font.
This is not a problem in blender, but in the font.

You said that Iosevka font displays the two-dot leader character. But I thought that character had been replaced by the ellipsis (…).
@Harley, hasn't two-dot leader been replaced by ellipsis?

@mano-wii - hasn't two-dot leader been replaced by ellipsis?

Yes, we are using the ellipsis for continuation now, and two-dot leader for nothing. Since Feb 1 2020: https://developer.blender.org/rBS63d5b974ccfa0858ad3f8c530cdcdcfb14b7b457

When I look at Fira Mono Regular it does have ellipsis (U+2026), but does NOT have two-dot leader

Looking at iosevka, it has both ellipsis and two-dot leader.

Therefore, as far as I can see, Fira Mono would not have shown a proper continuation character with master until Feb 1st. And iosevka would have worked at all times. And so here is a capture of current master with Fira Mono Regular showing it working correctly:

Good to know it's working in master with the three dot ellipsis.

Thanks to both of you Germano and Harley!
