Smoke simulation not working on blender 2.82 #75728

System Information
Operating system: Windows 10
Graphics card: GTX 1080
(CPU : Ryzen5 2700)

Blender Version
Broken: 2.82
Worked: 2.81

Short description of error
Smoke isn't simultaing on blender 2.82 since the smoke simulation has to be done in the fluid tab.
I tried to make the same simulation on 2.81 and 2.77, the simulation was working

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
1 add a primitive mesh (cube or sphere)
2 use the quick smoke option
3 start the animation

alternative way
1 add a primitive mesh (cube or sphere)
2 go to physics and set up a "Fluid", type "Flow", flow type "Smoke"
3 add a cube and scale it up
4 go to the physics tab and set up a "Fluid", type "Domain"
5 start the animation

Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible).

Thank's smoke report bug.blend

I confirm this report: the smoke data is there, because changing viewport stuff for the material shows it sort of. But for whatever reason, the step through the nodes hasn't been working. I'm using 2.82a.

When you started the animation, did you bake the data?
This is a prerequisite now (unless you change the cache type).

I confirm also. I have similar problems. Simulation has to be baked to be seen in UI if cache is Modular, ok that's acceptable, but any change in parameters of Domain (and then free/backe again) causes that simulation is not played in UI anymore. What's more sth brokes permanently, that the only way out of this is to restart blender.

Moreover simulations are shown in UI if you use Reply cache. But this (as well as backed simulations in Modular cache) does not support sources with initial velocity (which worked fine in 2.79)
