Operating system: Linux-5.3.0-53-generic-x86_64-with-debian-buster-sid 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 440.82

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.83 (sub 17), branch: master, commit date: 2020-05-21 13:03, hash: rB8a8c61190b06
Worked: 2.82a

Short description of error
The "Outline Selected" overlay is invisible in X-Ray mode where a selected mesh object is in front of an image empty,
making the overlay useless in that area.

Latest builds of Blender 2.83 and 2.90 are affected.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
In the 3D Viewport:

  • Import an image as an empty (e.g. drag-and-drop in a jpg file)
  • Place a mesh object infront of the image and select it (e.g. the default cube)
  • Activate X-Ray mode (e.g. using Alt+Z)

I can confirm the change in this report
@Jens (Jens.Ne) please remove the "BF Blender (2.83)" project tag and add the "BF Blender" one.
the developers will decide with version to add this report to.
in blender 2.82a:

in blender 2.90:

A workaround can be to change the Depth of the image to Back or change its Transparency Opacity to less then 1

@dupoxy Thanks, I corrected the Tag.
