GPencil: Object without materials cannot use Vertex Color mode #77067

Blender Version
Broken: 2.83 Beta, 39aa122a0e, master, 2020-05-25

Short description of error

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • In Object mode, add a new Grease Pencil Empty.
  • Go to Draw mode
  • The vertex color option isn't there.

NOTE: It is there if you add a new Grease Pencil Stroke or Monkey object.

Unless I am mistaken, the Grease Pencil object needs to have a material first for this to show?

Just add a material and you should be good to go...

Note: there is still an error when accessing the materials dropdown on such a blank greasepencil object (will tackle this separately though...)

I have fixed the bug, but to use it, be sure you have these options:

  1. The brush mix factor must be greater than 0.

  1. You are in the right shading mode (Preview or Render) or if you are in Solid mode, you have the Vertex option enabled.

(both parameters are set with the right values in 2D template).

@lichtwerk This fix is not related to the bug you found it when the material list is empty.
