Description

System Information
Operating system: Linux-5.6.15-arch1-1-x86_64-with-arch 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 1080 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 440.82

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.83 (sub 17), branch: master, commit date: 2020-05-28 11:42, hash: rBff1040c6fefc
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
When baking a smoke simulation with Cache Type set to "Final", and you click "Bake All", that same button changes its label to "Baking All - ESC to pause". However it is not possible to resume the bake after pressing "ESC". - That Button now says "Free All".

Expected:
Either make the label "ESC to cancel" or allow the user to resume baking.

Event Timeline

Richard Antalik (ISS) changed the task status from Needs Triage to Confirmed.Jun 2 2020, 2:46 AM

Yes, that label was misleading. Should be fixed in df17ee202b5b and also more clear in the manual (rBM6725).

If there is demand for it, in the future we could extract the functionality from the "Modular" and the "Final" mode. That is, make it possible to

  • resume bakes in "Final" mode
  • bake only the most essential data in "Modular" mode (for smaller cache sizes).

Thanks for the fix!

I believe that everybody would welcome those additions. ;)
