Artifacts with CUDA rendering and displacement #78781

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19041-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 442.92

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.90.0 Alpha, branch: master, commit date: 2020-07-08 20:30, hash: 31bc76ea4e
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
Im getting artifacts that even deform the mesh when previewing and rendering with GPU while using displacement.
The artifacts go away if I switch to CPU.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
I added the file because I can't figure out exactly what it is on the displacement, but it's there because the glitch is gone if I disable it.
There's one hint though. If I link only the color to the mix node then the principled shader it goes back to normal. Then if I put the Mapping into the Viewer Node and go back to the principled it stays with the artifacts.

I cannot reproduce the problem. Perhaps it is a specific problem with NVidia.

Are you using OptiX or CUDA?

This appears to happen with CUDA, and not OptiX. CPU rendering with BVH2 works ok as well.

Yes, you're 100% right. If I change to OptiX the issue goes away. Thanks for the temporary fix btw!

Hello! I have the same problem but with OpenCL. My graphics card (Radeon RX550) only supports OpenCL so I think my only option is to use the processor for rendering

(I also tried version 2.90 and the problem persists)

I don't see an issue here, with neither CPU nor HIP (Blender 3.5 Alpha). Assuming the issue is solved for CUDA then as well.
